Week 21 Tidbits


Curriculum Tidbits:

  • Our animal reports are ready for printing in coloring book form! Our next focus for writing  will be working on opinion essays.
  • This week in reading we will move sharpening our comprehension skills as we read articles on the Super Bowl.
  • Our Bible stories are still focusing on the lives of Isaac and Jacob.
  • In math, we doing a lot of work on telling time on an analog clock and learning how to calculate elapsed time. Tricky stuff!
  • We will begin learning about Force and Motion in science.
Other Tidbits:
  • Our class will celebrate Valentine's Day on Thursday, February 12, with the (optional) exchange of valentines among our class. I will attach a class list to our weekly email. (If your third grader chooses to pass out valentines, please include either all the boys or all the girls or everyone in the class to avoid hurt feelings.) 
  • Scroll down past the Requested Announcements to see pictures of our class working with our three-school buddies (adorable!), some of our clock/telling time learning, and pictures of our class' new-found love of working on puzzles during read aloud and indoor recess.

  • Upcoming Dates:  February 13 & 16: No School
  • Check your spam or junk mail! - We have heard from a few people in the Rose Park office that they have had e-mails from school go straight to their spam/junk mail. If you notice you’re missing things you typically receive, check out your spam to see if your missing messages may be there!
  • If you typically pick up your child(ren) via the Peace Lutheran’s parking lot please allow the buses to have the right of way, and give them plenty of space to operate as they have afternoon routes to accomplish safely. Please do not to walk in between buses and stay on the Rose Park sidewalk to the very end (by the standing stone) before you “cross over” to the walkway as you walk together to the church. Thanks!
  • Running Club! It's time to think about Spring activities again! Rose Park will again have a Rose Park Running Club for 3rd - 5th graders this spring. The program will run from February 17 - May 2. Runners must be signed up to participate, click here!

    Week #19 Tidbits

     

    Curriculum Updates:

    • Once we finalize our typed animal reports and put them in coloring book form, we will move sharpening our comprehension skills as we read articles on the Super Bowl.
    • Our Bible stories will help us learn about the lives of Isaac and Jacob.
    • In math, we will do some more measuring to the nearest 1/4 inch before moving on to telling time and learning how to figure out elapsed time.
    • In social studies, we will finish up our study of Michigan's geography before moving on to learning about Force and Motion in science.

    Week #18 Tidbits


    Curriculum Tidbits:
    • Bible - We are immersed in the story of Abraham, learning about God's call on his life, his faithful response, and evidence of God's faithfulness to Abraham.
    • Writing - We will be publishing our animal reports this week so we can create our class Animal Report Coloring Book for each student.
    • Reading - Having finished reading two of the books in the "Sarah, Plain and Tall" series, we are well-prepared to work in our next reading unit which has us comparing two or more books in a series. As part of this unit, students will learn how to have meaningful book-club discussions centering around these books.
    • Social Studies - Prior to Christmas Break, we read the book "Paddle-to-the-Sea" which helped give us a basic understanding of Michigan's Great Lakes and the geography of the land surrounding them. This week we will take a closer look at the other geographical features in Michigan.
    • Math - We have been learning about fractions in this unit. This week we will also learn about measurement using a ruler and telling time on an analog clock.
    • We look forward to learning January's Bible Memory Passage - Psalm 1- with Mrs. Winningham in Sing, Move, & Memorize.
    • Friday, January 16, marks the end of the 2nd quarter.

    • Discovery Night at Rose Park: Do you or any of your friends or family have a prospective preschooler or kindergartener? Are you or someone you know looking into options for the 26-27 school year? We’ll be having our Discovery Night next week Thursday, January 15, from 6-7pm, and we’d love to have you come and explore Rose Park’s preschool and kindergarten programs! Since we prepare individually for each family visiting this Discovery Night, we would so appreciate your RSVP for Discovery Night. If you are unable to make it to Discovery Night, you are still welcome to visit Holland Christian Schools in person and see things in action for yourself. Feel free to schedule a campus tour through by filling out our Inquiry Form. Enrollment for the 26-27 will begin school year begins February 1, 2026.

    Week #16 Tidbits

     


    We enjoyed a great time learning about Christmas traditions of the early settlers at DeGraaf Nature Center in partnership with the ODC last week. Thank you to Mr. Chavez, Mrs. Vandervinne, and Mrs. Grill for chaperoning! (Scroll down to see pictures.)

    Tidbits to Get You Through This Week:

    • In an effort to keep some semblance of routine, we will still have spelling/word work and reading minutes this week!
    • Tuesday, December 16, 12:20-2pm - Gingerbread Houses (Third graders will work with their peers to construct their houses.) Each third grader should bring in TWO tubs of white/vanilla frosting to use in constructing their gingerbread house. You may send them in at anytime!
    • Wednesday, December 17, 2:15-3pm - Our 3rd grade class Christmas party. Mrs. VanderWoude, Mrs. Haan, Mrs. Tetro, and Mrs. Huizenga have volunteered to plan our class Christmas party. We are all so grateful!
    • Take note of optional dress-up days below for Christmas Spirit Week here at Rose Park.
