Quarantine Tidbits

Curriculum Tidbits:

  • In Bible we are following Jesus' journey to the cross.  After Spring Break we will continue by learning about his death and resurrection.
  • I hope your fifth grader has been encouraged throughout this uncertain time by continuing their "fill your cup" (devotional) time each morning.  My deepest prayers is that their faith would grow as they keep their eyes on Jesus.  Last week I encouraged them to personalize Psalm 91 by putting their name into it, and the previous week they were encouraged to use their "fill-your-cup" collection of notecards to create a list of "God's True Words".
  • We begin Unit 8 this week which focuses on metric conversions and some geometric concepts including area and perimeter.
  • Our reading and writing units are mirroring each other quite well right now.  We have finished our informational writing presentations.  Now, as we wrap up our historical fiction book clubs in reading, we'll be using those same books to create literary essays for writing.  This week's focus is all about themes, claims, and evidence.
  • If your fifth grader has worked on making a project to go along with their informational writing presentation, we would still LOVE to see them!  On Thursday morning, at 10am, we will have another whole-class Zoom meeting where they can share what they've been working on.
Other Tidbits:
  • Spring Break begins on Friday (4/3).
  • Optional extensions are always listed at the end of every day of at-home learning, as well as ideas from Mr. Kool (P.E.), Mrs. Hoogland (Art), and Mrs. Gomex (Spanish).
