37th Week Tidbits

Last Week Tidbits:
  • The entire class did SUCH a great job giving their oral presentations in front of the class.  Having recorded and shared quite a few book talks in March, this was a natural next step in becoming more comfortable speaking in front of an audience.  I'm so proud of how they fulfilled the "public speaking" portion of our latest writing unit.
  • We have concluded both Word Work (spelling) and Reading Minutes for the school year!
  • For math, we look forward to participating in an Outdoor Geometry Scavenger Hunt on Tuesday afternoon.
  • We will wrap up our last read aloud, Johnny Tremain, on Tuesday.
  • We look forward to participating in Field Day on Wednesday (6/1) afternoon.
  • We look forward to honoring the 5th graders of Pine Ridge at a special chapel on Thursday, June 2, at 2:15pm in the "courtyard". Parents are welcome to attend!
  • Friday, June 2, is the last day of school.  We will dismiss at 11:30am. Report cards and batons will be sent home with your child that day. (For new families, each student is given a baton with a large piece of paper rolled up inside of it.  On it, each teacher writes an encouraging, personalized farewell message to the student.  It's our way of sending them off to the next grade - passing the baton to the student to keep "running the race".  Please keep track of these batons over the summer, as they will need to be returned to school for sixth grade.)
