- In math, we are working in Unit 5 which is a short unit covering area and perimeter as well as how to find equivalent fractions.
- Matthew 28:1-10 is the Bible memory passage for the month of March.
- We're just about finished with the life of Joseph, and next we'll learn about Moses.
- Our social studies unit on the economy of Michigan will have us learning about scarcity in some pretty fun ways.
- In writing, we are typing our all of our paragraphs for our class coloring book of animal information. Our next unit will be poetry!
- In reading, we will be doing some introductory work with book clubs.
Show-and-Tell:
- Show-and-Tell has become somewhat of a highlight of the week for this class. They LOVE bringing items to show, and we LOVE seeing all of the treasures. We do Show-and-Tell during lunch on Thursdays, and it's not unusual for it to continue after lunch recess... we have so much participation, which I love. We have enjoyed SUCH a wide variety of things!
- dogs and cats
- handmade treasures
- self-written books and artwork
- awards and trophies
- uniforms of past sports they've played.
- stuffed animals
- collectables
- special rocks and coins
- trinkets of all kinds
- toys that "do" something
- remote control cars
- photographs
- videos of singing and dancing performances
- and even demonstrations of a special "skill" (i.e. standing on your head)
Show-and-Tell, some of which include:
- Learning how to be an audience and give your attention to someone.
- Growing in confidence to stand in front of your peers and speak.
- Being able to not only show the item you brought, but being able to tell the class why you brought it, what it is, etc.
- Each person who does Show-and-Tell gets to call on two classmates who have questions. Even this is an area of learning. It takes some thinking and planning to be sure you are asking a question and not just adding on a "telling" of your own.
Thursdays. It really does add so much to our day and our learning.
- TULIP TIME is coming! 1st through 4th grade parents - please fill out this google form to indicate your students participation and attire for the Kinderparade on May 9th.
- Swimming Lessons Our Holland Aquatic Center is providing swim lessons for us again this year! I recognize this program is new for some children and families. Because our children are blessed to be raised in Michigan, surrounded by bodies of water, we believe this safety instruction is a blessing that we pray they will never need but feel responsible to equip them. If you find yourself pondering over the “why” of lessons, please take a listen to HC mom Jenny White on the why for swim safety. HCAC Swim School welcome video will help you understand a bit about the logistics. Our 1st-4th graders will be bused to the pool each day the weeks of April 14-25.
- 9-10am: 1st Grade
- 10-11am: 4th Grade
- 11am-12pm: 2nd Grade
- 12:35-1:35pm: 3rd Grade
- Glow Party: On your child's music day next week (Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday), there will be a Glow Party in music class. This is a reward that was earned for good class behavior throughout the year. All of our music activities that day will revolve around hands-on, glowing/light-up items. It is going to be a blast! Your child is welcome to wear clothing that will "glow" under the black lights. Most white and neon colored clothing appears to glow. If your child has anything they can wear that lights up/glows (glasses, hat, etc...) they are welcome to don that as well. No extra toys please. Thanks for your support.
