Eighth Week Tidbits

Grandparents' Day has got to be one of the favorite days around here.  Grandparents and students alike beam with happiness and joy as they interact.  The fifth graders loved giving their grandparents a peek into life in fifth grade.  If I was able to snap a picture of your child with his/her grandparent(s), you have already received an email with that picture attached.  I apologize that some grandparents were hard to photograph before their fifth grader had them off on a tour!

Today marks the end of the first marking period.  Please look for your child's report card to come home next week Friday, October 19.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the fifth graders are enjoying decimals way more than they enjoyed fractions.  This link has lots of decimal math games that reinforce our lessons here at school.  Specifically focus on comparing decimals, place value in decimals, decimals to fractions, and addition and subtraction of decimals.

Thank you to the following parents who have volunteered to chaperone our trip to Calvin College on November 5: Lizz Hegg, Heather Siegers, Stacy DeMaster, and Jodi Schaap.  We plan to leave Pine Ridge by 8:30am that morning.

It has been fun to see the students get excited about finding and reading books by Gary D. Schmidt.  Your child is welcome to bring his/her own copy of a Gary D. Schmidt book to be autographed on our field trip.

Our memoirs are being published as we speak!  Our battle cry has been: "Home Row is your friend!" as we remind ourselves that efficient typing comes from using all TEN fingers God gave us.  We are excited to share our completed memoirs with each other at our Reading Celebration on October 24, and with you at Parent Teacher Conferences.

Looking Ahead:

  • Parent Teacher Conferences are October 22 and 23.  The sign up can be found here.
  • Due to CEA Convention, we do not have school on October 26 or 26.
