Eighteenth Week Tidbits

I've been blessed to dig into the events surrounding the Christmas story with the fifth graders.  As we move through Advent - often distracted by a to-do list - may our hearts be ever tuned to the hope that is found in Christ Jesus!

This coming week is our last week of 2018.  Here are some things we will be "wrapping up":

Luke 2:6-20 is due to be recited (alone or with a friend) or completed in a fill-in-the-blank sheet by Friday, December 21.

We had a Writing Celebration today to wrap up our Literary Essay unit.  Completed essays will be sent home next week.  We had fun taking "shelfies" with our literary essay books.  You can find your child's picture by clicking on this link.

In order to draw our (short) unit on multiplying to a close before our Christmas Break, students will have a math test on Friday.  Look for practice test to come home on Wednesday - due Friday.

Students will receive a Social Studies review sheet home on Monday in preparation for an assessment on Tuesday.

The fifth graders will spend next week concluding our unit on historical fiction by working on a final "accordion book" project based on the book they read.  This will be a great opportunity for their creative juices to flow!

Reading minutes are due on Monday (12/17), however students will not have new spelling sorts or reading minutes next week.  They can look forward to receiving both again when we return on Monday, January 7.

We plan to bring all of our LPC donations of baby items to chapel on Wednesday (12/19), so there are still a few more days to participate!

Christmas Plans:

I will supply a pizza, pretzel, and dessert lunch for the class on Thursday, December 20.  If your child does not care for pizza, they are welcome to bring a cold lunch as we will be eating just a little earlier than hot lunch would be available.

The fifth grade classes will have a Christmas celebration from 2:20-3:00pm on that same Thursday.
