Twenty-Eighth Week Tidbits

Curriculum Tidbits:

  • A math practice test was sent home yesterday to help your fifth grader prepare for our unit test on Tuesday (3/16).  Students should complete the practice test, check their answers using the answer key attached to this week's parent email, and return corrected tests on Monday (3/15).
  • We continue to learn about the events leading up to Jesus' death and resurrection in our Bible time.
  • Our informational books are nearing completion!  Finishing touches will be put on next week.  The rest of the week, students will have the opportunity to do some free-writing.
  • We will be learning about the Declaration of Independence and Thomas Jefferson next week in social studies.
  • During our reading time, we will be applying non-fiction reading strategies as we use texts that tie back into our social studies learning.
  • This past week, fifth graders had fun in our STEM lab working in teams to construct one of the events that led up to the American Revolution. (See pics.)
  • Yesterday, to mark "Pi Day" (3/14), both fifth grade classes did learning activities introducing them to Pi, and enjoyed delicious apple pie compliments of Mrs. Hendershot, mother of Alivia in the other class.  Needless to say, the pie was a HIT! (See pics.)
