1st Week Tidbits

We survived!  It's been SO NICE to have a portable air conditioner in our classroom these past two days.  We are able to maintain focus and learning in spite of the heat and humidity outside.

To say our week has gone well would be an understatement.  This bunch of fifth graders has had an AWESOME first week!!  They've been attentive, helpful, and FUN!

I'm excited to see what God has in store for us this year.

Curriculum Tidbits:

  • We are working through some Bible lessons that introduce us to the Word of God, its writers, purpose, and people.
  • Our first math unit is all about adding and subtracting fractions.  These first lessons review the basics of fractions and how to find equivalent fractions.
  • Fifth graders got to "meet" their laptops this week!  Next week we will work with Google Classroom and Typing Club to learn and practice proper finger placement.
  • In reading students will be setting a reading goal, discussing past reading experiences, and reviewing how to infer information from the books they read.
Other Tidbits:
  • All of Pine Ridge participated in "POD Olympics" this afternoon!  It was a great time of meeting new friends and reviewing playground rule, while playing fun games.
  • Returning students, please send in your fifth grader's baton so I can hang on to them until the end of the year.
  • Double check with your fifth grader to be sure he/she has a set of ear buds/headphones to use during class time.
  • Due to the upcoming holiday weekend, we do not have school on Friday, September 3 or Monday, September 6.
  • If you missed the email with the Parent Night Video, just scroll down in this blog to find it to view!
