Ahhhh....the weather this week has made a world of difference!  The class is definitely getting into the routine of school and fifth grade.  They are fantastic!

Curriculum Tidbits:

  • In Math, we will be be learning how to compare fractions.
  • Fluency and making good book choices will be the focus of our reading time.
  • Students will be learning about the "library of the Bible" by looking at how the books of the Bible are organized.
  • Psalm 8 is the memory passage for the month of September.  Students received a copy to keep at home for practice.  Students will choose to recite the passage or complete a fill-in-the-blank by Thursday, September 30.
  • During Tech Time students are becoming acclimated to using their laptops as a learning tool.  We spend the early weeks of school really working on proper typing, home row keys, typing with both hands, etc.
Other Tidbits:
  • Walk-a-Thon pledge envelopes were sent home today.  This is a great fundraiser for the school, but it is completely optional.  Any pledges collected should be returned to school in the envelope provided by Friday, September 10.
  • Pine Ridge with thank Mrs. Norman for the years she spent as our school secretary during this week's chapel on Wednesday.
  • Students brought home their "take-home folders" for the first time today. These folders will go back and forth to and from school with the fifth graders every day.  (This is THEIR responsibility, so no need for you to keep track of it.)
  • The "Save the Date" cards for the movie night on September 10, is for an event put on by the Ureel family. (Mark is in the other fifth grade class.) This is not a school sponsored event, but they wanted all the fifth graders to be invited.
  • Next week Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I will be out of the classroom and our amazing aide, Mrs. Koops, will be subbing.  I'm confident this will be a seamless transition for the kids for those three days.
