Looking Ahead to Week 6!

Here are some great smiles from third graders letting their creative juices flow!

Hooray! The weather cooperated, and we were able to do our chalk painting outside on Monday.

Curriculum Tidbits:

  • We hope to spend just one more week on our current math unit before assessing early next week. This unit has been largely review as the concepts are foundational to all other units.
  • Keep up the good work with getting those reading minutes! The third grade expectation is 125 minutes of reading per week. Visit your local library if you are in need of materials that interest your third grader.
  • Our study of the history of Michigan continues in social studies.
  • We'll wrap up our current Bible unit this week. We've been learning the books of the Bible, how chapters and verses are marked, what footnotes are, and will learn all about concordances this week.
  • The September Bible memory passage, Psalm 8, is due on Friday (9/29). Students will have the following options:
    • Say it to Mrs. Smit alone or with 1 or 2 friends.
    • Complete a fill-in-the-blank page that has a word box to choose words from.
Other Tidbits:
  • Thank you so much for sending in missing supplies. Our week went so much smoother!
  • As silly as it sounds, Prime hydration drinks seem to be all the rage with third graders, so much so that they surprisingly become quite the distraction in the classroom. Would you be willing to perhaps pour the drink into your child's regular water bottle instead of sending it to school in it's original packaging? My hope is that then the distractions will lessen. Thank you so much!
  • We are looking forward to the Walk-a-Thon on Wednesday afternoon at HCHS. Students should have comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
  • Our library day is Wednesday. Students may check out up to three books and may renew or return them the following week.
