Looking ahead to Week 5!

Working with a partner to create and solve multi-digit addition and subtraction problems to practice carrying and borrowing.

Increasing our perseverance, problem-solving skills, and spatial awareness by working with tangrams.

Curriculum Tidbits:

  • Unfortunately, the rain earlier in the week delayed the chalk painting we had planned.  But never fear! We plan on doing it next week!
  • Our current Bible unit helps us learn how to use the Bible, look up verses, know the books of the Bible, and understand the importance of God's Word.
  • Students will be selecting "good fit" or "just right" books to use during our reading time as we dig deeper into what it means to be a strong reader.
  • Math has us practicing multi-digit addition and subtraction with carrying and borrowing.
  • Third graders practice math facts daily, working towards increasing automaticity.  Rather than the focus on being super-speedy, we want them to increase their ability to recall math facts rather than having to figure them out. Building fact fluency frees their minds up to focus on more complex mathematical operations in the future.
  • In social studies, we will learn about the history of Michigan.

Other Tidbits:

  • As we settle into our routines, we are focusing on increasing behaviors and choices that help create a learning environment and decreasing those that disrupt.  Since expectations have been explicitly taught and practiced, if repeated reminders are needed at this point, I'll keep you informed via email so we can maintain a strong home/school partnership and work together to support your child in their growth.
  • Some students still need EXPO (dry erase) markers, and old t-shirt/art shirt, and/or working headphones. Please send these supplies in at your earliest convenience. (We use these items multiple times a week, and my personal supply is quickly dwindling.)
  • Our yellow take-home folders go back-and-forth between home and school every day - even if they are empty.  If your child's yellow folder has been at home, please locate it over the weekend and place it in his/her backpack.  Thank you!
