What a week we had! Enjoy all the pictures! (Keep scrolling for this week's information and reminders after the pictures.)
On Wednesday, we endured a wet day at the Outdoor Discover Center and actually had a fantastic time! Third graders learned more about the Native Americans and French Voyagers. Some of the fun included taking down and rebuilding a teepee, learning how beaver furs were traded, playing "double ball" and other early games, fire making, and ax throwing with REAL axes! A huge thank you to Mrs. Redder and Mrs. Workman for braving the elements and helping us enjoy the day!
During the week we played many multiplication games trying to practice and solidify some new multiplication facts.
We finished up the week doing a STEM challenge with all of the third graders that required us to build a candy pumpkin catapult and use it to complete six different activities. Aside from being really fun, students practiced their planning, engineering, and collaboration skills!
Curriculum Updates:
- This week students will begin to narrow down their ideas for their persuasive essay.
- So far, we've learned the 2s, 5s, 9s, and 10s multiplication and division fact families. This week we will continue practicing those families and add in the 3s family. We will also learn about the distributive property of multiplication.
- In science, we will be observing the weather and learning about the tools meteorologists use to help them forecast the weather.
- Students will say or do a fill-in-the-blank for Psalm 23 on Tuesday (10/31).
- We will spend some time learning about why we celebrate Reformation Day.
- This Friday (11/3), we hope to go to "Smit Farm" (my house) with all of the third graders to hunt for and gather a variety of natural items to use in a fall craft, try building a shelter, and do a weather observation. Students will need to be sure to dress for the weather.
- SWINGIN’ THE NIGHT AWAY - The Holland Christian Jazz Bands and the Old Timer’s Jazz Band are proud to present Swingin’ the Night Away in the HCHS cafeteria on Friday, November 3, from 6:45 to 9 pm.
