Looking Ahead to Week 12!

 {If you missed the post with all of the week's pictures, please click here.}

Curriculum Tidbits:

  • We will be diving into the story of Abraham in Bible.
  • Math continues on with multiplication - not only the memorization of facts, but the application of multiplication principles in real-life situations.
  • Our new mentor text, Because of Winn-Dixie, will help us as we continue to focus on understanding characters in reading.
  • Third graders are learning that sharing their opinions is fun! 😉 We are pushing our thinking to do more than just share our opinions, but to use well-thought out reasons that will help persuade someone. By week's end, most of us will have chosen a claim for our persuasive essay.
  • We are focusing our weather observation skills on noting the temperature, wind speed, cloud cover, and precipitation.

Other Tidbits:

  • While it seems a bit early to be thinking about Christmas parties, our class party is scheduled for Wednesday December 20th.  If you would like help plan the party (a game or two, a craft, and a snack), please let me know! Our celebration will be from 2:15-3:00pm.
  • One of the third grade Christmas traditions is assembling and decorating a gingerbread house.  This fun activity will take place on Wednesday December 6, from 12:15-2pm and works best if every third grader has an adult helper.  Please click here to let me know who will be coming for your child, so I can be sure we have enough adult helpers.

Requested Announcements:

  • Safety: Now that our morning commutes are darker this season, and since we so value the safety of our student pedestrians and cyclists in the morning, can we please ask a favor? We ask that student cyclists wear reflective clothing, and even have a light on their bikes. In addition, student and adult pedestrians please take extra care when crossing streets and parking lots, especially when in close proximity to our buses. Our bus drivers and drop-offs definitely want to remain accident-free!
  • Kinder Dutch Dance registration is now open! All 3rd-5th grade students are invited to join us. See the attached flyer for more information, then head to http://www.tuliptime.com/getinvolved/dutch-dance to sign up your child! Practice is held on Wednesdays in the gym during lunch recess starting February 21st. Email dutchdancenicolejohnson@gmail.com with questions regarding practice, performances and costumes. Looking forward to growing our group for the 95th Tulip Time Festival! Flyer is attached HERE.
