Curriculum Tidbits:
- Third graders should plan on taking their spelling test on last week's words on Tuesday (1/16).
- Signed reading minutes slips should be returned on Tuesday (1/16).
- In Bible, we are delving into the stories of Isaac and Jacob.
- The Bible memory passage for the month of January, is Psalm 1. As with past passages, we are learning part of the passage in song form with Mrs. Winningham.
- We hope to wrap up our current multiplication unit by taking an assessment once we return to school. The next math unit with focus on measurement.
- Our next reading unit is Informational Reading.
- We will share our finished persuasive essays with each other and then begin our informational writing in which each third grader will research and write about an animal.
Other Tidbits:
- Thank you for sending in all the snow gear last week! Looks like there will continue to be a need for it in the foreseeable future.
- Friday (1/12) was the last day of the 2nd marking period. Report cards will be available on Friday (1/19).
- We do NOT have school on Monday, January 15, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
- Third graders will take the math and reading MAP tests sometime in the next two weeks. Data from these tests can help measure growth and direct our instruction.
Requested Announcements:
- Swimming Lessons for 1st through 4th grade: All 1st-4th graders will be bused to the pool each day the weeks of February 5-February 16. Please be aware of this schedule when making appointments for these few weeks.

- Personal Device Reminder - To our best ability at Holland Christian (preschool-12th grade), we are committing to restricting personal devices during the school hours. These devices distract students from learning and impede personal relationships. We ask for your cooperation and partnership in this policy.
Personal Technology: Personal Technology is not necessary in a school setting and disrupts the learning environment. Personal Technology includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Cell Phones
Smartwatches
Headphones or Earbuds
Personal Laptops
MP3-Players
Etc. (i.e. Any non-school issued personal technology)
If parents need to communicate with their student, they can send their student an email or call the office and get a note from the office. Personal Technology items are not allowed to be used or visible during the time a student enters school until the final bell rings. If a student needs to use their phone, they must receive direct permission from a staff person to do so.
