The BIG NEWS is that report cards were sent home with your third graders on Friday. These are meant to give you a glimpse of your child's growth at the halfway point of the year. In a nutshell, I am SO THRILLED with how far they've come! Not only have they grown in academic ways and in their knowledge, but they have grown in motivation, focus, work skills, independence, and as disciples of Jesus.
They are an amazing bunch, and I love my days with them!
It has been hard to "get traction" and back in a regular routine with our day off and our snow days, so if some of the following sounds familiar, it's because we didn't get nearly as far
as I had hoped to last week.
Curriculum Tidbits:
- Third graders will receive NEW words on Monday for their spelling test on Friday (1/26).
- Signed reading minutes slips should be returned on Monday (1/22).
- In Bible, we are continuing the stories of Isaac and Jacob. The Bible memory passage for the month of January, is Psalm 1.
- We are moving on to our next math unit with focus on measurement. We will begin with learning about units of length.
- In order to lay a strong foundation for fourth grade, math homework for most students will be multiplication and division math fact practice. (For those students who have already shown mastery of their math facts, an alternative will be given.) Homework will be sent home on Mondays and due the following Monday.
- Our next reading and writing units both have us learning about Informational Reading.
Other Tidbits:
- Third graders should continue the habit of taking their yellow Take Home folders to and from school each day. (This is one of many ways we work to practice and build responsibility and independence.)
- Our class took the Reading MAP test last week and will take the Math MAP test this week.
