Looking Ahead to Week 23!

Curriculum  Tidbits:

  • New Word Work Groups: I took time last week to reassess students and gather them into new word work study groups. You might notice that your child may be repeating some of the word sorts they have done previously and others may notice that the words have become more difficult. The sort your child receives for the week is based on how well they performed on the assessment as well as their daily spelling in class.
  • Kid Town News: Students will continue to earn "Kid Town Money" throughout this week as well as begin to prepare items that will be "sold" in each of the stores. Many of these items are made out of the recyclables we have left over from earlier in the year.  Here are a few other things we could put to use if you have them around the house. (You may send these in anytime this week. Please don't buy anything!
    • empty egg cartons, packing materials, wood scraps, smallish boxes, cans, lids, junk bits (screws, buttons, washers), beads (for "jewelry"), fabric, lace, trim, ribbon, felt, netting, sandpaper, yarn, straws, toothpicks, spoons, craft sticks, stickers, a variety of paper (wallpaper, crepe paper, scraps...), items from nature: shells, stones, cones, feathers, pipe cleaners, styrofoam trays, colored plastic tape or plain masking tape, envelopes (any size), stickers, colorful paper (for writing letters), toilet paper tubes,  paper grocery bags (with handles), plastic bags.
  • Our new Bible Memory passage for the month of February is Psalm 121.  We look forward to beginning to learn this passage by participating in Sing, Move, & Memorize led by Mrs. Winningham each morning of this week.
  • In math, we will review milliliters and liters and then move on to measurements of weight.
  • We will be covering Jacob's Family Reunion in Bible before reviewing this unit and moving on to our unit on the life of Joseph.
  • Third graders will begin researching and drafting their Informational Writing.
  • In reading, continue to practice finding the main idea and summarizing what we read. On Friday, all of the third graders will be participating in a fun "Snowball Reading Blizzard" activity.
