Week #8 Tidbits


Curriculum Tidbits:

  • Drafting our personal narratives continues this week.
  • In social studies we'll wrap up our Venezuela project in anticipation of Spanish Heritage Day on October 10.
  • We will finish assessing Math Unit 1 and our math fact knowledge before moving on to our next unit.
  • In Bible, we'll continue to practice our monthly memory work, Psalm 23, and our learning of the stories in Genesis.
  • The class is ready to record their book reports in SeeSaw and link to them with a QR code so classmates can listen.
Other Tidbits:
  • Report Cards will be sent home digitally via the office on Friday, October 11.
  • On Tuesday our class has Barn Duty, so we will work more to ready to barn for the new chicks' to move in soon!
  • Show-and-Tell is every Thursday during lunch time. (If you have a "special" show an tell, like a pet, and need to work out a different time, just let me know!)
  • This class has been doing SUCH A GREAT JOB getting their reading minutes turned in!  WOW! I've been so impressed by them.

Requested Announcements:
  • School picture retakes will be happening on October 21. Students needing retakes should bring in their original picture packets on the day of retakes.
  • Holland Christian Schools will be facilitating an event called Parent University: a conversation around Jonathan Haidt's Book: The Anxious Generation
  • Aim: How, collectively, parents can make choices to counter the smartphone culture and guard their hearts.

  • Focus: We will discuss the harmful effects technology has on our children. We will dive into data that demonstrates the psychological damage that can occur to a child immersed in a phone-based childhood. Join us in these conversations and walk away with a clear call-to-action that will make a difference not only in your child's life but their time here at Holland Christian Schools.
