Second Week Tidbits

Our Reading Graffiti board is getting filled with lots of great quotes from the books our class is reading.

Opening Convocation was a blessing yesterday morning.  What a privilege to worship together as a school community!  Below are a few tidbits of information about our class:

1.  Instead of focusing on one student for a week (Star Student), this first semester EVERYONE is invited to bring in pictures to fill up our "This is Us" bulletin board.  These can be any pictures your fifth grader would like to bring in (baby pictures, vacation pics, snapshots, etc.). As pictures come in and as time allows, students will be invited to share about their picture(s) and hang them on our board.

2.  Our Encore Schedule:
          Monday - P.E.
          Tuesday - Spanish and B.O.M.
Wednesday - Chapel, Library, and B.O.M. on alternating Wednesdays
          Thursday - Art
          Friday - Spanish and B.O.M.

3.  If you are interested in volunteering to help check books in and out during our Library time, we'd LOVE to have you!  Please use this link to sign up for any date(s) that work for you. This year our Library time is shared with Mrs. Becksvoort's fifth grade class, so parents from both classes are invited to sign-up.

4.  We do not have school on Friday, August 31, or Monday, September 3.  Enjoy the long, holiday weekend!

5.  End-of-the-week papers are in the front pocket of your child's binder.  They should show you their papers and that pocket should be empty when they come back to school.

6.  Next week we look forward to starting our first Writing Unit: Memoirs.

Upcoming Dates:

  • The Walk-a-Thon is scheduled for 9/26, and packets were sent home with today's papers.  They will be due back on 9/19.
  • Our first Spelling Word List and Reading Minutes will be sent home on September 10.
