Third Week Tidbits

We've gotten so used to four-day weeks, how on earth will we make it through an actual five-day week next week?  Truth be told, I'm actually really looking forward to settling into a full-week schedule.  Here are some tidbits of helpful information:
  • Our FIRST Reading Minutes tracking sheet (purple) will be sent home Monday.  Students are expected to read for 150/week.  Signed tracking sheets will be due the following Monday, September 17.
  • First set of Word Work/Spelling Words will also be sent home on Monday. Your child's one copy of words needs to stay in their binders all week as they will be using it for activities and practice throughout the week here in the classroom.  Practice at home is recommended. Students will be tested on 15 words each Friday.  If fewer than 15 words are on a list, all of the words will be assessed.
  • We had such a good time writing Six-Word Memoirs this week!  It was fun to see the fifth graders try to make the most out of those precious six words.  The students used Google Slides to publish their memoirs, and we all enjoyed seeing and reading everyone's memoirs during our Gallery Walk with Mrs. Becksvoort's fifth grade class.
  • School Picture Order Forms were sent home today and are in your child's binder.  These are due back on Thursday, September 13, even if you are not ordering any pictures. :)  Be sure to order your yearbooks now as they won't be available should you decide you would like one later.
  • During the next two weeks students will be taking 3 standardized tests on their laptops - reading, language, and math.
  • The Walk-a-Thon will be held the afternoon of Wednesday, September 26, at the HCHS track.  Pledge envelopes are due back by September 19.
  • For those of you who like to plan ahead: Grandparents' Day is the afternoon of Thursday, October 11.
  • Mrs. Throop, school counselor, visited our class this week.  She shared about what her role is here at Pine Ridge.  In a few weeks she will be leading a brief small group on friendship for the girls in our class.  More information will be sent once the details of a start date are settled.
  • Pictures have been rolling in and we've had such fun listening to our classmates share about themselves through these photos.  Your child is more than welcome to bring photos to add to our This is Us bulletin board!
