Books have been chosen and book clubs have been formed. On Monday we will hit the ground running in our Historical Fiction Book Clubs. Along with digging deeper into the text in light of historical setting, students will put into practice their active listening skills and work to be intentional in sharing their thoughts and ideas about their novel.
We are excited to have author Crystal Bowman share about her writing on Wednesday, April 17.
Next week Thursday (4/18), the fifth graders will need a sack lunch because we will be spending the day in Grand Rapids. A large part of the day will be spent at the Gerald R. Ford Museum. In the afternoon we will be working with Kid's Food Basket. We are thankful for our chaperones: Mrs. Holloway, and Mrs. Rigterink.
In Bible, students have been excitedly working in groups to present a parable to the rest of the class. Creative juices are flowing, and we are looking forward to see what each group prepares!
Poetry is our focus for writing. As we enjoy reading different types of poetry, we are also learning about literary devices that are typical used so we can use them in our own poems.
5th/6th Fine Arts Night is Tuesday, April 16th. Watch for a schedule to be sent home with further times and details about the performances.

Athletic Announcement from HC Athletic Director:
ATHLETIC 2019/2020 Information:
Attention current 5th & 6th Grade students who are interested in joining the MS sports teams for the 2019-20 school year! Holland Christian will be Rolling out a new athletic online registration system. Holland Christian Schools is now partnered with FinalForms, an athlete online registration company. This email notification is for all parents of current students grades 5-11, but intended only for students interested in participating in any sport for the 2019-20 school year (grades 6-12… 6th graders are limited to participation in cross country, tennis, swimming & diving and track & field). We are excited about this new relationship with benefits for our athletes and families including a streamlined athletic physical process, more efficient communication and online pay to participate fee collection. Your family data is saved season-to-season and year-to-year… meaning you should never have to enter the same information twice!
April 15 is the first day students can complete the MHSAA required athletic physical for the 2019-20 school year in order to participate on a school athletic team. Our partnership with FinalForms requires you to register your child online for sports at Holland Christian in order to print the needed MHSAA physical form for your MD/DO/PA/NP to complete. With April 15 fast approaching, we want to ensure parents understand the new process for registering online before completing the annual MHSAA physical. If you already signed up for Holland Christian’s physical night on April 30 or plan to have your child’s athletic physical completed at your primary care physician before participation, please register your athlete online before doing so by following the instructions at the following link: https://www.hollandchristian.org/athletics/handbooks-forms/
If you still desire to sign up for an appointment at the Holland Christian physical night on April 30, 2019 for the 2019-20 school year, please sign up at the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c4eafaf2aa46-athletic
Procedures and requirements such as these are important for our organization to run efficiently and safely. We hope your experience is streamlined after the initial learning curve of the new registration process. Thank you for your efforts to assist us in extending the classroom and put knowing God on display through athletics at Holland Christian. Go Maroons!
