Thirty-third Week Tidbits

Students continue to add to their collection of written poetry. Next week we will be writing "Definition Poems". Poems are being collected in their Google account so they can be compiled into a finished product at the end of the unit.

Book Clubs are in full force! Beyond discussion of the text, plot, setting, personal reactions to the text, etc. students are practicing active listening skills, sharing ideas, how to disagree with each other, and how to ask for clarification.  They are taking these roles and responsibilities very seriously!

We have completed our most recent math unit on algebra, and will be having a test on Tuesday, April 23. In preparation for that test, the fifth graders have a practice test in their binders that will need to be completed, corrected, and returned on Monday, April 22. The answer key is attached to the parent email.

Yesterday's field trip to the Gerald R. Ford Museum was outstanding! Each student created an eBook based on what they learned about President Ford and what he did to be an active, contributing citizen. Students also considered ways in which they could be active citizen and responsible citizens. Our day concluded with putting those principles into practice by packing snacks for Kids' Food Basket.

Fifth graders do not march in the upcoming Tulip Time parade, however they have the option of being a Dutch Master or a SouthSide Helper. Please use this link to sign up  if your child would like to participate.
