Fifth Week Tidbits

Source

Curriculum Tidbits:
  • Psalm 8 is due on Thursday (9/26).  Students will complete a fill-in-the-blank unless they would prefer to recite it to me.
  • Next week we will begin to plan out our "seed idea" for our memoirs.  Ask your fifth grader if they have an idea yet.  We did a lot of pre-writing activities and prompts to brainstorm ideas.  Our memoirs will focus on one memorable or meaningful event or memory we have.
  • We will finish our current read aloud/mentor text Wonder by the end of the week and have the opportunity to compare the book to the movie at the end of the week.
  • We have completed our math unit of adding and subtracting fractions.  Next week we will spend a few days reviewing the concepts in class in preparation for the math test on Thursday (9/26).  (Usually a practice test will go home over a weekend for the students to complete, but because of the timing of our test with days off these first few weeks, we will instead work on it during class.)
  • We are nearing the end of our Bible unit and will focus on Jesus being the Living Water with the story of the Samaritan Woman.
  • Our social studies time continues to focus on the early English settlements of Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth.
  • Even though our week is shortened this week, we will still have spelling words and the test will be moved up to Thursday (9/26).
Other Tidbits:
  • The Walk-a-thon will be on Wednesday (9/25) after lunch.  You are welcome to join us or just stop by the high school track to encourage all of the students!
  • Due to a Professional Development Day for the faculty, we will not have school on Friday (9/27).
