Curriculum Tidbits:
- A green Bible review sheet is being sent home on Monday in preparation for our upcoming Bible Unit 1 test on Wednesday, October 2. We will be also be reviewing in class.
- This is a BOM-Wednesday week, so students should bring their instruments on T, W, and F.
- We'll be wrapping up our reading unit on characters this week as we delve into themes in literature.
- Our new math unit begins Monday and focuses on addition and subtraction of decimals. The class will likely enjoy this break from working with fractions.
- We will draft a lead for our memoir and dive into some extended writing time as we work to make our memoirs reveal something about who we are.
- Our next read aloud will be Pay Attention, Carter Jones! by award willing author Gary Schmidt. He has also written other middle-grade novels such as Okay for Now and Wednesday Wars. He has graciously agreed to meet with us to discuss his writing, his books, and being an author. We look forward to meeting with him at Calvin College on November 18th. I'll be sending home more details on this upcoming trip soon!
Other Tidbits:
- Grandparents' Day is Thursday, October 10.
- On Friday, October 18, from 1:15-2:15pm, our class will be serving at Resthaven Maplewood. I would love to have a parent accompany us. Please email me ASAP if you would like to join us!
- We are working to have the front inside pocket of our binders be used for "take-home" (i.e. graded) papers only. Graded papers in that front pocket may be taken out and left at home or thrown away. :) Students should be putting all papers that we still need and are still working on in the appropriate section/folder, not in the front cover pocket.
