Curriculum Tidbits:
- In math we will begin the week adding and subtracting mixed numbers with like denominators before moving on to adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.
- We ended our week learning about how John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus to begin his ministry. Next week we will focus on the temptation of Jesus and his baptism.
- Our reading focus is studying the characters in our good fit books. By thinking deeply about characters' actions, traits, and choices, we can gain a better understanding of our stories.
- Next week we will introduce our memoir writing unit by working to write a 6-word memoir.
- Christopher Columbus will be our focus in social studies as we learn about the beginnings of our country.
Upcoming Dates:
- MAP testing will take place this week with three tests (math, reading, and language arts). The results of this testing is just one piece of information we look at to be sure we are meeting the needs of our students.
- Picture day is this week Thursday, September 12! Picture order forms were sent home today. Please return the envelope with your fifth grader on Thursday even if you are not ordering pictures.
- Walk-a-thon donation packets were send home yesterday and are due back on the 18th. The walk-a-thon is the afternoon of September 25th at the high school track. You are welcome to come and cheer us on!
