Seventeenth Week Tidbits

Curriculum Tidbits
:

  • Our current math unit on multiplication will wrap up this coming week with an assessment on Friday.  Look for a practice test to be sent home on Wednesday.
  • The class has thoroughly enjoying having time to write their own creative stories.  It's been so fun to see their enthusiasm both in the writing process and in sharing their story with friends along the way.  This coming week will be spent publishing them.
  • Students should be finished reading their historical fiction chapter book by Monday (12/16) so they are ready to begin working on the booklet project.  Check in on your fifth grader to see how far they are.
  • In Science we'll be wrapping up our study of space (Objects in Motion) by learning about eclipses.
  • Our study of what the Bible actually tells us in regard to Jesus' birth has been quite eye-opening for the students.  While studying the historical and cultural background can help us imagine some missing details, much of what we assume to have happened is actually not documented in the Bible.

Other Tidbits:

  • While we've been focused on, anticipating, and learning about our Savior's birth for the past several week, we will enjoy some festive time together...
    • playing games with the entire fifth grade class at the end of the day on Thursday, and
    • mingling with the sixth grade students on Friday afternoon.
  • Thank you for sharing your fifth grader with me!  It's a blessing to spend my days with them and partner with you in their education.  This is a happy, encouraging, and joy-filled bunch!
