We Did It!

 yay

We may have been sweating profusely and exhausted, but after five months off of school, we've successfully completed our first week! Hooray!  It felt so, so good to be back.

One thing I know for sure, this group of 23 students is pretty awesome.  Their excitement at being together with friends was contagious.  Pine Ridge is in good hands with these fifth graders as leaders.

Curriculum Tidbits:

  • In Bible we've been immersed in learning about the authors, languages, books, and purpose of the Word of God.
  • We're dusting off the math cobwebs and reviewing multiplication facts as we also review the basics of fractions. Next week we will work had at making equivalent fractions using three different strategies.
  • In reading, we are working at increasing our reading stamina and looking at ways we can grow as readers by setting goals, imagining scenes, and making inferences.
  • We've been using our laptops frequently to get logged into email and Google Classroom, learn the basics of Google Docs, and practice typing - "real" typing using the home row.
Other Tidbits:
  • Due to Labor Day, we will not have school on Friday (9/4) or Monday (9/7).
  • Once we return from Labor Day we will begin weekly reading minutes and word work/spelling lists.
  • Band, Orchestra, and Music (B.O.M.) will begin in full next week Tuesday (9/1).  Students who chose band or orchestra should come with their instrument.
Pictures:
  • We closed our first week by gathering on the front sidewalk to make word art using our Bible memory passage - Psalm 8 - as inspiration.  (pics below)
  • When possible we took our learning outside - pictures below are of us being observers of nature.
