Fifth Week Tidbits

Last week's substitute had great things to say about the time she spent with our class. I'm looking forward to getting back into the classroom on Monday for a new week!

Curriculum Tidbits:
  • In science we will be taking a deep dive into space with our study of "Objects in the Sky".
  • We continue to work to getting back up to speed in math as we add and subtract fractions.  When the fractions have different denominators, there are quite a few steps and details to follow to add or subtract accurately. We'll get there!
  • A review sheet will be sent home on Monday as we prepare for our first Bible test on Wednesday (9/30).
  • A big challenge for quite a few students as we settle back into the school routine, is to stick with their "good fit books" during reading.  We're working on resisting the urge to "book hop", but instead find a good fit book and stick with it.
  • In writing we learned how to write "a lead" and will spend this week drafting our memoirs.
  • Psalm 8 is due on Wednesday (9/30).  Check with your fifth grader to see if they still need to recite it or complete a fill-in-the-blank.
Other Tidbits:
  • Although this year's Walk-a-Thon was different than past years, by all accounts it was still very successful.  We thank God for the generosity of our all of our supporters!  This year's totals are:
    • FS/SS/PR = $25,150.53
    • RP = $13,324
    • Business Sponsors = $15,550
    • TOTAL = $54,024.53       GOD IS SO GOOD!
  • Thursday, October 15, will be {Virtual} Grandparents' Day.
  • Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for October 19, and 20, and will take place via Zoom.
  • Due to CEA Convention, there will not be school on October 22 or 23.
