Curriculum Tidbits:
- In Math we are continuing on with multiplying and dividing fractions, with extra practice decoding story problems and determining the correct operation. A practice test will be sent home on Wednesday and will be due on Friday - the same day as our Unit 3 Test.
- We have wrapped up our literary essay unit, so our focus turns to persuasive writing. You should see how excited these fifth graders are to express a strongly held opinion!
- Each fifth grade student has selected a historical fiction book to use as their "good fit book" during this historical fiction reading unit. It's been good for us to stretch ourselves to read a different genre than we may usually choose!
- We continue to follow the stories surrounding Jesus' birth in Bible.
- Our memory passage for the month of December is a familiar one: Luke 2:6-20. It is due on Thursday (12/17).
- Our science learning continues as we focus on Force & Motion.
- We are SO EXCITED that we have been able to schedule a Zoom author talk with award winning author Gary Schmidt on Friday (12/11). Since he is a professor at Calvin College, we usually travel to Calvin to meet him in person, however COVID changed that plan. We are thrilled he is still able to meet with us!
Other Tidbits:
- Pine Ridge is once again collecting new and gently used baby items for Positive Options. Items may be brought in at anytime!
- Thank you for your continued support through encouraging notes, emails, and prayers. This year has been so, so good in spite of all the challenges we are dealing with. I'm so thankful to be partnering with you all!
