Twenty-Sixth Week Tidbits

This week we learned what it means to "fill our cups" with God's Word.
Each morning, we open God's Word to a specific passage to fill our hearts and minds with God's True Words.

Curriculum Tidbits:
  • Our Bible stories this week will introduce to some of Jesus' closest friends like Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.
  • Matthew 28:1-10 is our Bible memory passage for the month of March.
  • Long division is proving to be very challenging for some, so we continue with consistent practice!  This week we are introducing long division with decimals and considering what to do with the remainder.
  • We will continue learning about the events leading up to the American Revolution this week.
  • We are finished learning about each type of non-fiction text structure, so this week in reading we will be using what we know to read and identify each structure.
  • Drafting our informational writing is nearing completion, so the fifth graders will begin publishing their writing this week.
  • To connect with our learning about "cause & effect" in reading, the fifth graders tried their hand at constructing "chain reactions" in our STEM lab.  They did an OUTSTANDING job being creative, working together, and problem solving!  (See pics and videos)

Other Tidbits & Requested Announcements:
  • Please check with your fifth grader to be sure he or she has boots to wear on the playground if and when it is snow-covered.  Thanks!
Athletics in Middle School
As a 6th grader, your child will have the opportunity to join middle school sports. Please see the information below:
  • 21-22 Sports Registration: All families with students going into 6-12th grades will need to register here for athletics through Final Forms. Registration for 21-22 athletics will be available on April 1st. Fall high school sports begin on August 11 (football August 9) and fall middle school sports begin on August 23.
  • 21-22 Sports Physicals: The athletic department anticipates the requirement of a pre-participation physical (dated after April 15, 2021) by the MHSAA to participate in school sports for next year. Typically, Holland Christian offers physical night appointments each spring for athletes to meet this requirement, but at this point in time we are still working on the feasibility of this opportunity. Athletes may need to individually schedule an appointment with their primary care provider between April 15 and the start of their first practice or try-out in any upcoming season. Physical forms will be available to be printed from individual Final Forms accounts to take to your appointment for your DO/MD/NP/PA to sign.
Band Information:
Plans are being made to host an HC band concert in three parts with an in-person audience on Wednesday, March 24 in the HCHS gym. Required safety protocols will be followed, which include limiting each student to 2 guests. We will also be live-streaming the concert.

-The 5th and 6th grade bands will perform at 6:00 p.m.

-The 7th and 8th grade bands will perform at 7:00 p.m.

-The High School bands will perform at 8 p.m.

More details will be sent out over the next few weeks.
