Curriculum Tidbits:
- Just a couple weeks to go on our last memory passage of the year - Galatians 5:22-24.
- The fifth graders are really getting to have quite a collection of poetry at this point! Our creative writing will continue with a type of poem called a "Two-fer" this week.
- We have concluded our historical fiction book clubs, and the class became great conversationalists about what they read. We will continue reading historical fiction books for our good fit books as we finish up our unit this week.
- Our next Bible unit will focus on the giving of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and the growth of the early church.
- In math, we continue to practice order of operations and use of variables in mathematical expressions. This week much of our focus will be on using coordinates on a coordinate plane.
Other Tidbits:
- MAP testing is slated to happen this week for the last time this year. Data from these tests is one piece we use in measuring growth and making new educational goals for each student.
- Have you heard the news? Ruff Readers have reappeared at Pine Ridge! For the remainder of the year, 3-5th graders will all have an opportunity to take advantage of reading aloud to these visitors once a week.
- Fifth grade students will have three health lessons in May. The first will be whole-class and focus on self-esteem. This includes what the world says is beautiful, what the Bible tells us is beautiful, and how we are made in God’s image. The second and third lessons will be divided by gender as students are introduced to both how bodies change through puberty and the body systems involved in conception and pregnancy. Students benefit from conversations with their parents before and after these lessons.
- Pine Ridge enjoyed an impromptu Tulip Time parade this week Wednesday right in our own driveway. Thank you to the HCHS marching band and the Dutch dancers. (See pics.)
- The Spanish Immersion classes from Rose Park helped Pine Ridge celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Wednesday. Thank you! (See pics.)
