4th Week Tidbits

Curriculum Updates:
  • Now that testing has been completed, we can resume our normally scheduled routine!
  • We "dipped our toes" in learning about the US Constitution for today's Constitution Day.  We spend more time learning about it in greater depth later in social studies.
  • In writing we will be generating "seed ideas" for our personal narrative.
  • Math continues with adding and subtracting fractions with both alike and unlike denominators.  Because of the many steps involved, we will be utilizing a "grid" to use in solving each step.
  • Our reading teaching points will push us to use a repertoire of strategies to think beyond what the author writes, and to consider what the author isn't telling us and how filling in those gaps adds to our understanding.
  • We'll learn about the four Gospel writers before learning about John the Baptist and Jesus' baptism in Bible.
  • Our first Reading Minutes slip will be due Monday (9/20) morning!
Other Tidbits:
  • Picture Day is scheduled for Thursday, September 23, at 11:20am.  Please return your child's picture envelope even if you are choosing to not order pictures.
  • Please check with your fifth grader to be sure he/she has a working pair of headphones or ear buds at school.  Thanks you!
  • Thank you for your support of this week's Walk-a-Thon!  We are so grateful!
