5th Week Tidbits

Curriculum Tidbits:
  • Our focus in Bible will be on learning how Jesus responded when Satan tempted him in the wilderness, and taking a closer look at Jesus' first miracle in Cana.
  • We've worked on generating "seed ideas" for our personal narratives and will "try on" a few of them to figure out which idea we want to "grow" by writing about it more fully.
  • In reading, students will spend much of the week practicing the skill of summarizing what they are reading.  They will do this with various reading materials in a variety of ways (verbally, written, etc.)
  • Students are utilizing a "grid" the help them keep each step of fraction addition and multiplication straight.  We will continue this in the early part of next week before moving on to estimating fractions and solving fraction word problems.
  • In social studies we will dig into our text books a bit more by doing a "scavenger hunt" of sorts to help us learn about each part and resource.  We will also begin comparing two different groups of Native Americans.
Other Tidbits:
  • The fifth graders are "buddies" with the second graders at South Side.  Throughout the year, our classes will be getting together to learn and grow together by doing various activities such as STEM challenges, reading, and writing.  We hope to have our first activity together this next week!
  • Due to CEA Convention, there will not be school on Thursday (10/21) or Friday (10/22).
  • Pine Ridge's weekly chapel is every Wednesday from 9:15-9:45am.  You are welcome to drop in during this time to worship with us!
