Curriculum Tidbits:
- We are wrapping up our math unit on the addition and subtraction of fractions and will have a test next week Wednesday (10/6). A review test will go home on Monday (10/4).
- In reading, we continue to dig deeper by comparing our good fit books to other books we may have read. Looking for common themes is one way to do this.
- Students have created a "Post-it Placemat" which serves as a framework/outline for their Personal Narrative. After adding strong feelings, important details, and dialogue, students will work to craft an attention-grabbing lead for their narrative.
- We will finish up our current read aloud, Wonder, next week. Our next read aloud - which will also serve as our mentor text in reading - is Pay Attention, Carter Jones by Gary Schmidt.
- Our social studies focus will be on the early explorers.
Other Tidbits:
- We had a great time working with tangrams this afternoon with our second grade buddies from South Side. This is a great way to get to know other friends in our school while doing a STEM project.
- Our entire Pine Ridge student body is participating in a school-wide STEM project following the reading of the book Ish by Peter H. Reynolds. We learned that the PROCESS is important, and we should give ourselves grace when we look at our PRODUCT. Our class made a plethora of "ishes" like: a bow & arrow-ish, a pencil-ish, and a hanger-ish.
- The end of the 1st marking period is October 8. Report cards will be sent home October 15.
- Parent Teacher Conferences will be held in person on October 18 and 19. I look forward to meeting with all of you!
- Picture retake day is scheduled for Wednesday, November 3.
