19th Week Tidbits

I'm so glad so many of you could come to chapel this past Wednesday.  Be sure to scroll down to the end of this post to see pictures.

Curriculum Tidbits:
  • Our reading and writing units continue to coincide.  Both will focus on the "sequence" text structure.
  • A practice test was sent home on Friday. Students should complete the test to the best of their ability, check it (using the answer key attached to the parent email), and correct errors before returning it on Tuesday (1/18).  If any sections pose too great a frustration, students should simply circle that section and move on. We plan to review on Tuesday and have the unit 4 math test on Wednesday (1/19).
  • We are returning to our study of the life and ministry of Jesus this week in Bible.
  • Fifth graders can look forward to an afternoon spent in the STEM Lab on Friday (1/21).
  • A new spelling list will go home with students on Tuesday (1/18) with our test on Friday (1/21).
  • A reminder that a signed purple reading minutes slip needs to be turned in every Monday.  (In the case of next week, it will be on Tuesday.) While this is your fifth grader's responsibility to remember, you may want to check with them to see how often they have remembered.
  • This month we are memorizing Psalm 1.  It will be due on Friday, January 28.
Other:
  • We look forward to having Mr. Bryant Russ, Director of Faith, visit with our class on Tuesday morning (1/18).
  • Our playground is an icy, snowy wonderland and we go out in all weather (except for rain and extreme cold), so remind your fifth grader to come prepared with the proper outdoor clothing.
  • As part of Pine Ridge's Wacky Wednesdays, students are invited to participate by dressing up for "Sports Day" this coming Wednesday
