32nd Week Tidbits

Curriculum Tidbits:
  • Students will be assigned figures from the American Revolution to research for our current informational writing unit.  They will present their information in written (a trifold brochure) and spoken (public speaking) form.
  • Book clubs are in full swing!  Students gather daily to discuss the novel their group is reading.  In doing so, they learn and practice good communication skills such as active listening, giving feedback, disagreeing respectfully, and giving thoughtful feedback.
  • In Bible, we've been focusing on the time just after Jesus' resurrection.
  • We continue to find and plot ordered pairs on coordinate grids, sometimes needing to solve basic algebraic equations to determine coordinates.
  • In social studies, students are studying the events that led up to the American Revolution - "The Road to the Revolution."
Other Tidbits:
  • Fifth graders will walk to the middle school on Tuesday, April 26, for a tour and Q&A session in preparation for their move to 6th grade next year.
  • We have been invited to shop at the 4th graders' Market Day on Wednesday, April 27.  (Fourth graders each made a product to sell at Market Day as part of a social studies unit.  Students have the option of bringing money from home to purchase products.  This is completely optional.  Generally, students bring around $5 to spend...just to give you an idea.)
Tulip Time Invitation to Fifth Graders:
  • We are looking for a few 5th graders to volunteer this year to participate in Tulip Time alongside our Southside and Pine Ridge friends. They would need to be in full Dutch costumes or dressed as a gardener with their "Rooted" T-shirt. If your child would like the opportunity to do so, this will be a first come first serve basis. Once the spots are filled we will let you know. Contact the Pine Ridge Office if interested: pr@hollandchristian.org
Library notice:
  • The week of May 2-6 is the last week for students to borrow books from Pine Ridge Library. All student library materials are due by May 13.
