34th Week Tidbits

Curriculum Tidbits:
  • We will review our current Bible unit next week and take a test on Wednesday.
  • In math, we're diving into the last unit of the year!  Students will learn about geometry and measurement in the remaining weeks.
  • Students will wrap up their study of the Road to the Revolution this week.
  • With the written part of our informational writing unit completed, we will turn our attention to planning the public speaking portion of the unit.
  • Book clubs will meet next week to discuss the endings of their respective books.
Other Tidbits:
  • Due to Tulip Time, we have half-days on Wednesday (5/11) and Thursday (5/12).
  • We look forward to writing welcome notes to the incoming third graders during our P.O.D. time on Friday (5/13) afternoon.
  • 5th grade students will have three health lessons May 23, 24, and 26. The first will be whole-class and focus on self-esteem. This includes what the world says is beautiful, what the Bible tells us is beautiful, and how we are made in God’s image. The second and third lessons will be divided by gender as students are introduced to both how bodies change through puberty and the body systems involved in conception and pregnancy. Students benefit from conversations with their parents before and after these lessons.
  • Pine Ridge and Rose Park fifth graders look forward to mingling for a few hours at Holland State Park on Friday, May 27. This time will include an art lesson on drawing Big Red, lunch, and a few mixer games.
  • HOLLAND CHRISTIAN SPORTS PHYSICAL NIGHT - Holland Christian encourages every child to see their primary care physician for their well child visit, but also understands the annual MHSAA pre-participation sports physical requirement does not always align with annual well child visits due to insurance requirements. Holland Christian's sports physical night helps alleviate these insurance issues with a low cost visit that meets the MHSAA requirements, but it is still beneficial for students to keep their annual well child visit with their primary care provider.
The student's MHSAA physical form must be completed at their well child visit, at Holland Christian's sports physical night, or through a different MD, DO, NP or PA who will check for major medical concerns that may arise through participation in sports. The MHSAA physical must be completed between April 15 and the first practice/try-out for a student to participate in that sport.
Holland Christian is hosting a sports physical night on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 6-8pm at South Washington Family Medicine (904 Washington / Suite 210 / 49423). Please sign up via this link to secure your child's spot. The cost of $20 (cash or check) supports Holland Christian Middle School Athletics.
If you are unable to see your primary care provider (MD/DO/NP/PA) before the start of the next sports season, or attend our June 1, 2022 Physical Night the Holland Hospital’s “Walk-In” Care Clinics ($40 – www.hollandhospital.org/hh/hh-walk-in-care.aspx) are also available options.
