Week Two

Curriculum Tidbits:
  • We will learn about the Gospel writers as we wrap up the general overview of how the Bible was written.  We then shift our focus to learning about Jesus' ministry by learning about John the Baptist.
  • In math, students will review converting mixed numbers to improper fractions before diving into adding and subtracting fraction with like denominators.
  • Our reading unit will focus on using a repertoire of strategies to understand confusing texts and learning how to summarize what they read.
  • We are "dipping our toes" in cursive, with the goal of every student being able to write (sign) their name in cursive on their papers (and later in life).
  • We are holding off on beginning word work/spelling until we have our first FULL week - September 12.
Other Tidbits:
  • We look forward to eating in our P.O.D. groups on Wednesday.  (P.O.D. stands for "Practicing Our Discipleship".  Students are put in multi-grade groups that meet regularly throughout the year to grow our Pine Ridge community and to grow in our discipleship practices.)
  • Walk-a-Thon packets were sent home with students today.  Look inside for information.  (The Walk-a-Thon takes place during school.  That morning, students will receive a t-shirt with this year's theme on it to wear at the Walk-a Thon. Collecting pledges/donations is optional.  All students will walk regardless of pledges received.  Money collected help to fund many different initiatives at Pine Ridge.)
