Week Twenty

Curriculum Tidbits:
  • We will be wrapping up Unit 4 in Math multiplying whole numbers and decimals. Look for a practice test to be sent home next week Friday as we prepare for a unit test the following week.
  • We are finishing our unit about Jesus' parables this coming week and will then work on a "parables project". 
  • Reading focuses our attention on the skill of reading informational text.
  • We continue learning about gravity in science.
  • Students are drafting their "Informational Writing" - writing a paragraph in a specific text structure as well as designing a graphic organizer of the information.
  • Psalm 1 is our Bible memory passage for this month.  It is due on January 31.
Other Tidbits:
  • Look for reports cards beginning this afternoon (1/20) on PowerSchool.  There are grades, standards scores, and comments in each subject.  If you have trouble accessing your fifth grader's report card or viewing it in its entirety or seeing comments, please let me know.  I am happy to assist you!
Requested Announcements:
  • This past week all of the girls in 5th grade had the opportunity to come together to have a conversation about friendship. This conversation was be led by Pine Ridge's school counselor, Haley Pett. It is be broken into three short (30 minute) sessions, with each session having a different focus: healthy friendships, communication and handling conflict. If you have any questions or concerns about your child participation in this group, please email Haley at hpett@hollandchristian.org.
  • Wacky Wednesdays schedule:
    • January 25 - Sports Day (Apparel only; no hats or equipment.) 
    • February 1 - Hat day
  • Middle School Lacrosse sign-up is now open! If you are a 3rd-8th grader who would like to play lacrosse this year, you can sign up now by following this link: active.com/orgs/holland-christian-school

  • Volleyball Do you have a 3rd-6th grader who is interested in volleyball? Here is a fun opportunity! Whether you're brand-new to the sport of volleyball or have been playing for some time, this clinic is for you! Led by the high school coaches and mentored by Holland Christian  varsity volleyball players, kids will have three fun and active sessions learning the game of volleyball and focusing on improving foundational skills. We work hard to coach every level and look forward to helping you grow in the game of volleyball while you also challenge yourself physically and engage in fun and memorable games and activities. ~Coach VK
