Curriculum Tidbits:
- Students will begin a new writing unit on Informational Research Writing.
- In math, we will be reviewing our most recent math unit and have our unit test on Tuesday, May 16. (No at-home practice test this time!)
- In reading, we will continue on with our unit: Informational Reading Research.
- We will be learning about Paul's Missionary journeys.
- Social studies has continuing to learn about the battles of the Revolutionary War.
- As we look towards middle school, we are spending some time each week doing writing check-ups which give us practice in answering questions in complete sentences and crafting paragraphs on given topics.
Other Tidbits:
- Fifth graders from both Pine Ridge and Rose Park will travel to Holland State Park on May 25, to draw Big Red (under the direction of Miss Spoelhof), play a few mixer games, and eat our sack lunches. this even is a yearly tradition that helps fifth graders from both sides of town mingle a bit before becoming sixth graders at HCMS.
- Fifth grade students will have three health lessons at the end of this month. The first will be whole-class and focus on self-esteem. This includes what the world says is beautiful, what the Bible tells us is beautiful, and how we are made in God’s image. The second and third lessons will be divided by gender as students are introduced to both how bodies change through puberty and the body systems involved in conception and pregnancy. Students benefit from conversations with their parents before and after these lessons.
