A common refrain this past week has been "You can do hard things." At the beginning of a new school year, simply having the stamina to stick with an activity or task with sustained focus and energy is a big ask, but we are getting there!
Curriculum Tidbits:
- This coming week we will finish our first Bible unit on the book of Ephesians.
- We will continue on in our addition and subtraction math unit. This past week our main focus was on reviewing place value.
- Third graders will do some "book shopping" in our classroom library and choose some "good fit books" to use during our reading time. I will also be assessing where each student currently is in their fluency and comprehension.
- Our first writing unit leads us through writing a personal narrative. Our initial time of writing this past week was very tricky for many of the third graders as they struggled to think of something to write and put pencil to paper. This will be a big area of focus for us moving forward.
- We will dedicate time to practicing and refining our handwriting over the next weeks. Improving spacing, size, and the correct use of upper and lowercase letters will be our goals.
- Please check with your third grader to be sure they have a few EXPO (dry erase) markers here at school. We use them daily - especially in math. Thank you!
- On Tuesday (9/5), students will come home with FOUR things inside their yellow take-home folder:
- A picture order form - Even if you decide to not order any photos, please return the envelope back to school at your earliest convenience. The envelopes have student-specific info on them that helps identify each student for the year book. (Picture day is September 14.)
- A Walk-A-Thon envelope - Details of what it is for are included inside the envelope. Please return it to school by September 20. The Walk-a-Thon is September 27.
- Bible Memory/Psalm 8 - This is our passage for the month of September. We will be practicing in school, but reviewing at home always helps! It is due on September 29.
- A math homework sheet - This is a review of a concept we have taught and reviewed. It can be returned as soon as it is completed, but is due by Monday, September 11.
