Week #17 Tidbits

(It's door decoration time! The class had fun posing for pictures so they could be a part of our door design. A few close-up pictures are at the end of this blog post which will make it easier to find your third grader!)

Curriculum Tidbits:

  • We're off and running in our Place Value Unit in math. Even though our math unit focus has moved away from multiplication and division, students will continue to practice all of their math facts throughout the week to build fact fluency. They are doing so well!
  • In Bible, we are illustrating Luke 2 as we commit it to memory.
  • Third graders will be drafting their opinion/persuasive essays throughout the week.
  • In reading, we will work to improve our fluency as we read new non-fiction articles. Students will record themselves reading orally and work to refine their reading.

Other Tidbits:
  • Due to a scheduling conflict, we have had to move out Gingerbread House Building Day to Tuesday of this week. Thank you SO much for donating all the necessary supplies! I sorted through what came in, and found that some of the tubs of white frosting were labeled with names and some were not. Each third grader needs to bring in 2 tubs of white frosting, so could you let me know if you sent in frosting and forgot to label it? If you haven't yet sent in your child's frosting, there's still time!
  • The Kindergarten Cookie Sale has been reschedule for TOMORROW (Monday, 12/9). Cookies are $0.50 each. Exact change is appreciated. Purchasing cookies is optional, but all proceeds go towards supporting the Klipp-Lopez family as they minister in Guatemala.
  • Our Class Christmas Party will be on Monday, December 16. Thank you to Mrs. French, Mrs. Neumann, and Mrs. Geenen for being willing to plan the festivities!

Requested Announcements:
  • Carpool reminder: Please remember that when the carpool cars are exiting, they have the right of way. In order to keep the carpool lane moving efficiently please do not let the parking lot cars merge into the exiting traffic. If you are in the parking lot please wait patiently once the carpool lane has begun moving. Thank you for your assistance with this, especially as the weather changes!

  • A gift from Amie Winningham: Merry Christmas, Holland Christian Family!  I am so thankful to be part of such a loving community.  I have a passion for children falling in love with God's Word and memorizing it for a lifetime.  I have developed Sing, Move, and Memorize over the years and created a special Christmas series for our HC community.  This 12 Day video series, Manger! is intended to help your family or class memorize Luke 2 (The Christmas Story).  I pray you enjoy this Christmas gift (check out the trailer below) and your children ask for it again and again!  To claim this gift, please click the link here, enter your email, and I will share the google folder with you so you can access all of the resources and videos.  If it blesses you, I'd be honored if you shared the word with others on social media or connected me to people you think might be interested! 12 Days Trailer TALL.mov -- I am thankful for each of you!

  • The weather has changed! Please make sure your students have weather appropriate clothing each day! In addition, please make sure to have a pair of tennis shoes for PE in your students locker!

  • The Parent Board is providing the teachers with a special Christmas lunch! Would you be willing to volunteer your time to be a lunch helper & recess volunteer? If so, sign up here!

(You'll have to zoom in, but your third grader will love to show you where they are on the gingerbread house door decoration!)
