Curriculum Tidbits:
- This week in Bible we will jump back into stories of Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness.
- Our new reading unit will have us paying attention to how characters change over time. The class is divided into groups that are each reading a different chapter book so we can do our learning in a "book club format".
- Our current math unit is all about solving different types of word problems.
- We continue to work on growing and maintaining our math fact fluency.
- The Bible memory passage for April is Acts 2:1-4. Last week we spent time learning it in Sing-Move, and Memorize.
- In our next writing unit we will learn how to write a literary essay.
Other Tidbits:
- Thank you to those of you who were able to come to Miss Callahan's Poetry Cafe on Friday. I'll be sending videos to those of you who couldn't attend. (Disclaimer: To set "the mood", the lights were off which made capturing clear videos very tricky. My apologies!)
- Swimming lessons continue this week. It's been fun to see the growth in their abilities and confidence!
- The Scholastic Book Fair is this week! April 23-25 from 11 am. 4 p.m. at the Intersection in Rose Park! Every dollar you spend will benefit our school library! This is our only fundraiser to add new books to the library. Last year our library gained 300 new books because of this fundraiser!
- Book Fair eWallet is a convenient digital payment account, so your child can shop the fair cash-free. You can sign up for an eWallet on the Book fair website
- Donations can also be made directly to the Rose Park Library Fund. Once you reach the Holland Christian Donation Page scroll down to “Custom Designation” and choose “other.” Then type in “Rose Park Library Fund”.
- We are heading to Dutch Village on Wednesday, April 30. This trip ties in nicely with our social studies units this year. We will be off-campus from 9:30am-2:00pm. I will need 3-4 chaperones for this trip. (Chaperones will need to pay $13 for a chaperone ticket and will meet us at Dutch Village.) Please email if you are interested.
- Some of the activities we will learn about are:
- Amsterdam Street Organ performance and Dutch dance lessons
- Old Dutch cheese making demonstration and cheese tasting
- Delftware pottery demonstration
- Wooden shoe carving demonstration
- Presentations in the Kolean Museum
- Free time activities include petting farm with baby farm animals, Wooden Shoe Slide and unlimited rides on our Zweefmolen (chair swing), Ferris Wheel, Draaimolen (carousel), Ziggle Cars and Petal Pumper Cars.
