This year's Tulip Time Kinderparade was such a fun time! The weather was as perfect as the third graders were!
I know the end of the year is fast-approaching, but I have to say, I am not looking forward to it quite yet. I'm content to soak up as much time as I can with this bunch!
So grateful!
Curriculum Tidbits:
- We have a little more to do to finish up our book club unit on characters for reading.
- In writing, we have been working to "prove it!" when we make claims about books we have read. This week we'll work on expanding our explanations of those pieces of evidence.
- In Bible, we will be learning about how God calls us to be different than the world, holy, and set apart by doing some lessons on the book of Leviticus.
- Science will continue learning about force and motion.
- We will assess our math unit about word problems on Tuesday and will then begin our final unit on geometry and measurement.
Other Tidbits:
- I'm looking for lunch coverage on Wednesday and Thursday of this week so Mrs. Diekema and I have some time to work on some curriculum together. Let me know if you are interested.
- Wednesday (5/14) would be 11:15-11:45am - lunch coverage in the classroom, and 11:45-12:15 - recess duty outside. (This could be the same person for both, or split between two people - one for lunch, one for recess.)
- Thursday (5/15) would be 11:15-11:45am - lunch coverage in the classroom.
- On Tuesday, May 20, all three third grade classes will be put into mixed groups to participate in a Geometry Scavenger Hunt in Downtown Holland. Our scheduled time downtown would be approximately 12:30-1:45pm. We could use a few parents to lead groups around downtown looking for and taking pictures of shapes in the architecture, the sidewalks, signs, lights, etc. Let me know if you are interested.
- On Tuesday, May 27, our class will spend the afternoon at "Smit Farm". They've been asking repeatedly for a return visit ever since we went there with all three third grades earlier in the year. At this point, I don't think I am in need of any chaperones.
Requested Tidbits:
Library notice: All student library materials are due by May 16.
Sing, Move, and Memorize Books! - If you have any interest in purchasing sing, move, and memorize books for your family please feel free to do so at this link.
The annual fourth grade plant sale is coming to Rose Park on Thursday, May 22, starting at 7:30am. They will be selling tomatoes, peppers, and a variety of herbs. All plants will be $3.00 per pot, cash or check only. Mark your calendars!
GUINEA PIG SUMMER HOME - The fourth grade guinea pig, Stormi, is looking for a temporary home during the summer months. If your child(ren) have been asking for a(nother) pet, this is the perfect opportunity to appease them with a "short-term" pet. All supplies are provided (cage, bedding, food, etc.) for the summer. The only requirement is that Stormi not come in contact with any male guinea pigs. This can be a single family honor, or shared by multiple families throughout the summer. Stormi requires very little maintenance, and the small duties that do need to be performed can certainly be handled by your children - and you get the bonus of the hours of entertainment she can add to those long summer days! Please let Mrs. VanderZwaag (kvanderzwaag@hollandchristian.org) know if you would be interested in having her. Thank you!
