Curriculum Tidbits:
- We'll be learning about the the books of the Bible and how they are organized in Bible this week.
- Our class is working to make sure our ideas for our personal narratives are "tiny seeds" i.e. the time Grandpa surprised me with a baby bunny, and not "watermelons" i.e. Spring Break with my Grandparents. This can be tricky! Once we have our "seeds" settled, we will begin drafting.
- In reading, we are building good reading habits so we can become strong readers.
- This math unit is focused on understanding the process of multiplication and division. Our first fact family has been the 5s family. We will then move on to learning the 2s family.
- Weekly required reading minutes begin this coming week! Students will come home with a Reading Minutes Slip on Monday (9/8) to help you keep track of minutes read throughout the week. They will return the slip to me - signed by a parent - the following Monday (9/15).
- Word Work/Spelling also begins this coming week! Your third graders will come home with a list of words that share a spelling pattern. The pattern(s) will be highlighted so you can see the relationship between the words. Some lists have more than 20 words on them, but the Friday spelling test will be on only 15 of them.
- I am in need of 3 chaperones on Friday, September 19th. The field trip is called "Rendezvous! Fur Trade on the Grand River" and is at Connor Bayou from from 9:30am-1:30pm. (It will be entirely outside.) You would need to meet us at Connor Bayou. Please send me an email if you'd like to chaperone.
- Our class will have their pictures taken on Thursday, September 11, at approximately 10:40am. Feel free to send in your third grader's picture form anytime before Picture Day. (They need the form even if you don't want to order any pictures as it helps to identify them.)
- Thursdays are our Show-and-Tell and Library days.
- We are finishing up MAP testing and Delta testing. Both of these are "one slice of the pie" that help us meet your child's academic needs by helping us understand both their strengths and area for growth.
Requested Announcements:
Caring for the Rose Park Ranch: Do you love animals? Do your kids come home talking about loving their days in the barn at school? If you and your family would be interested in caring for our ranch on the weekends would you send an e-mail to Ms. Roskamp at kroskamp@hollandchristian.org. We are going to set up training this Fall to get more families involved in our weekend barn chores!
- Hi from Mrs. Short: I got the chance to visit each classroom this week to (re)introduce myself to the Rose Park students! During our time together, I got to share a little bit about my job as the School Counselor. The big takeaway I wanted students to remember is that I am a helper person at school.
